The Children's Music Web Awards 2001

The Children's Music Web Awards are the world's first internet-based music awards for children, and the only kid's music awards truly decided by kids. Our goal is to recognize quality entertainment for kids worldwide. As you can see by looking over our previous winners we are correct to trust that kids know quality!
Last year, our 12 categories drew over 150 applicants worldwide. Our 14 categories this year are organized primarily by age level, not by content. In other words, a recording with music and stories may be in the same category as a multilingual album. All recordings are judged for excellence, not against each other. Two new categories of note are our "classic artist" categories, intended to recognize veteran children's entertainers.
The Children's Music Web Awards 2001 are decided in a three round system. Nominations can be made by suggestion on the internet, however, each nomination must be confirmed through direct application. Entries are first screened by a blue-ribbon panel for appropriateness for children. Entries are then assigned randomly to volunteer judging families, comprised of adults and kids. The applicants are rated quantitatively according to specific guidelines for quality, such as appropriate lyrics, arrangements, etc. using a form. Those who score 70% or better, the Finalists, are then passed to the next round.
Each category's Finalists will then be auditioned by approximately 100 children of appropriate ages in volunteer schools and day care centers in geographically diverse areas. The children audition the entrants in their designated category, and then fill out a simplified form as above. The scores will be doubled, and combined with the scores from the previous round. Those recordings who scored a composite of 90% or better will then be declared Winners. As you can see, this means that the entrants will not be competing with against each other, but vying for a highest quality rating.
We anticipate that we will have approximately 20 to 30 Winners. There may be 5 winners in one category, and two in another. However, the judges reserve the right to give NO award in any given category, if the scores of none of the entrants in that category do not rise to the highest quality level.
In the case of recordings for babies, infant care providers will rate their favorites. The Judges' Special Awards are discretionary awards by the judging panels, and, are not part of this application process.
Materials released from April 30, 2000 through April 30, 2001 are eligible for the "Best of 2001" awards. No such time restriction will applied to the "Classic" award categories. Winners will be announced at a special web-based event in September 2001, and in national media. Winners will receive 1,000 free "spider" stickers, suitable for gracing product. Extra stickers will be available for a reasonable fee. Finalists and winners will also have the right to announce their awards on product and press releases, providing that our website address is included in any mention of the awards.
