The Children’s Music Web Awards are the world’s first internet-based entertainment awards for children’s artists, and the only kid’s entertainment awards truly decided by kids. This is our tenth successful year. Our winners have been publicized on the XM Kids national radio service, in Family Life magazine, and throughout the world via the internet. We feel, and others agree, that it’s about time that kids themselves have a voice in honoring children’s recordings. You can check out the winners of last year's awards on our site.
Here’s how our awards program works: Entrants send in an application, with a reasonable fee. We have fee waivers for individual children's artists who cannot afford the fees. Entries are first screened by a blue-ribbon panel for appropriateness for kids. Then, entries are sent worldwide to volunteer families or neighbor groups comprised of adults and kids of appropriate ages. The entries are then rated by kids and adults according to specific guidelines for quality such as performance, production values and content. The top scorers in each category, the Finalists, are passed to the next round.
Each of the Finalists are then rated by a total of 100 kids of appropriate ages in 3 volunteer classrooms and day care centers in geographically diverse areas. The kids vote on their favorites using a simplified ballot. In the case of the Baby and Toddler categories, caregivers do the rating. Those recordings that score a composite of 90% or better will then be declared Winners.
Winners will be announced in early October 2007 through our website and through multiple media outlets. Winners will receive 1,000 free “spider” stickers and a certificate. Finalists and Winners will have the right to announce their awards on product and press release.
A special advantage of involving kids in the awards process is the added benefit of having "built-in focus groups." Winners of the awards will receive the candid comments of over 100 kids, suitable for use on CD covers and publicity materials. Some of the comments in the past have included " It was off the hizzle-dizzle" and "It knocked my glasses off.." It's just the sort of thing to catch the eye of the savvy consumer.
This year, most of our categories are not time dependent. That is, any recording or song is eligible, regardless of release date. Three of our categories- "Best New Artist" - are restricted to only those artists or groups whose first national release occurred after December, 2005. Our Judge’s Special Awards are discretionary awards by the family judging panels, and are not part of the application process.
We anticipate that we will have approximately 80 winners this year. There may be 10 Winners in one category, and two in another. However, we reserve the right to declare no Winners in a given category, if the scores of none of the entrants reach the highest quality level.
