How to be a judging family or judging classroom

In order to be a judging family or classroom, you must

a: have an email address where we can communicate with you

b: have access to real kids- students, family members, neighbors, etc.

c: be responsible for the process of judging, and follow through on your obligation to us.

In return, you will get to keep the recordings. OH, and you'll have our thanks

We have two major rounds of judging:

Family: ( June 30 to Aug 10)

The first round uses family groups to screen the material. As the responsible adult, you will receive at your home a package of about 5 music, story, or book CDs from a specific category or categories to judge over 4 weeks during the summer, along with instructions. Your job is to audition the material with the children and help them form opinions using a simple matrix. The children will rate the material according to excellence, kid appeal, etc etc. Then, it will be your job to summarize the results, and send back the results to us via postpaid snail mail or email WITHIN THE DESIGNATED TIME FRAME.

Small playgroups or family day care centers are encouraged to apply for this round as well.

Schools and Day Care Centers ( After August 15)

The second round of judging uses schools and day care centers. As above, you will receive a package of about 5 recordings with instructions at your home or school site. Over 3 weeks, you will help the children listen to the material and then help them rate it according to our guidelines. Infant caregivers will make their own opinions, based on their experiences listening with the babies. It will be the teacher/caregiver's job to summarize the results, and send the results back to us via postpaid snail mail or email WITHIN THE DESIGNATED TIME FRAME.

The participation of families and schools is crucial to this process. We especially need families and schools outside the US. We also need children familiar with languages other than English, and religious schools for the religious material.

Again, as a thank you gift, you will keep the recordings that you have been sent.

If you are interested, follow these directions before June 25, 2007:

Email lisah@montyharper.com

Put "judging family" or "judging school" in the subject line of the email.

In the body of the email, list your name, address, phone, email, school ( if applicable), ages of children, and religious material or languages you can judge. If you are in a country outside the US, include suggestions for customs forms ( what designation won't cost you anything... gift? sample merchandise?)

Tell your friends! Gold stars for families and teachers who recruit other participants!

It's more fun together!

Thank you!
